Marine Tank has cycled….can I add Corals Now?
Hi
I have a 125l (29gallon) tank that has been set up for a month now…I have 17kg of live rock and 20lbs of live sand….just tested my water and they are as follows:
Ph – 8.0
Nitrite – Less than 0.3mg/l
Nitrate – Less than 12.5mg/l
Specific Gravity – 1.022
Temperature – 25.9 Degrees Celsius
I currently have 6 hermit crabs and 2 turbo snails living in the tank, no fish and no corals and I am wanting to add something into my tank tomorrow when I go to the Aquarium…
My questions are:
Should i add coral first before fish? As i have read the parameters in water will fluctuate on addition of coral..
What type of coral should I begin with? I have T5 lighting.
Do you just put the coral in? Does it need to be acclimatised first? Does it sting? Can you just place on live rock…will it just stick?
I have been doing a lot of research but nothing covers my specific questions…if you could help please…would be greatly appreciated.

I am concerned about 20 pounds of sand, you only want 2 inches, that is just barley over the bottom plastic strip. More then that, when you add fish or do a water change, the sand will get stirred up and release toxic gasses into the water and kill the fishl Your Ph will be the biggest flux, but as long as you have a good skimmer, you will be ok. coral will not just stick to the rock, you have to use a special glue or putty, or tie it down. It should be acclimated, you can add the coral first, When you choose your coral, its a personal choice of what you like, I like soft corals…Leather, fans, ect…..find one you like and research it, see if it can live in the environment that you have created.
